Blue Water Bay-The Master Plan Vacation Year Round
By Holly Clark
One of the best kept secrets in small town America is the Blue Water Bay Community. Just a short drive from the “Mayberry” atmosphere of Smithville, Tennessee, you will find hidden in the beautiful lakefront hills an elite community. Blue Water Bay is over 290 acres where you can renew your body, soul, and spirit. Living in this master-planned community, you can unwind from the stress of the outside world while nestled in a majestic hardwood forest. Here you will find a renewed sense of well being by surrounding yourself and the ones you love with the sights and sounds of nature.
Mr. Todd Hasty, of Smithville’s Premier Realty, recalls being a part of the community’s humble beginnings, “I fell in love with the property and envisioned an idyllic lake community that would truly be special. I felt that the panoramic views of Center Hill Lake and the beautiful picturesque hills of the Cumberland Plateau offered an opportunity to provide a first class lake community that people could enjoy year round”. He said he envisioned a resort style concept with a family atmosphere. In his vision, the community would have a state of the art pool and fitness center with first class amenities; a pavilion with a fireplace and meeting rooms. Mr. Larry Hasty, a residential developer since 1977, shared the dream. Like his son Todd, Larry Hasty started as a real-estate agent, and moved into developing. Both father and son share their experience of riding the virgin land—300 acres of old logging trails. As they rode the trails, within them a dream of resort size quality began to expand in their minds. Larry Hasty said, “Riding the trails, you see the lake from every view, and the views are breath-taking spectacular—even from a distance”.
Charlie Gamble of THIRD COAST CONSTRUCTION was hired to build houses that would make the development distinctive. He said, “Blue Water Bay was challenging, because we wanted to protect the integrity and beauty of the natural setting, while using the terrain to accentuate the gorgeous views of the lake. We used the colors of the houses to blend into the environment keeping the scene environmental friendly and using the natural scenery as much as we could”. Gamble was up for the challenge and excited about the opportunity to build on the lake. “We worked with a different type of construction and different type of houses than what I have worked on in the Brentwood and Franklin area”. Gamble has known the Hastys for over twenty-five years, and worked with them in the Franklin and Brentwood developments.
Larry Hasty, who also has a home in Blue Water Bay said that the houses are a distinction to this lake community. He said, “To make the project special this development would be different by actually having houses, whereas most of the area’s lake communities sold properties in hopes that the owner’s might one day have the time, money and energy to build on the property.” The main draw of the respected community is residential activity—and Todd Hasty’s dream for a Resort Activity Center. The dream is in fact a reality. A person can truly live in Blue Water Bay and feel as though they are on holiday all year long. The quality of the community center is spectacular and most certainly a plus for the year long and the vacationing residents of this unbelievable community. “The neighborhood of Blue Water Bay owns state of the art POOL Center, recreation; work out area, and a really nice facility for catering weddings or parties that might be too large for your home,” Larry Hasty said. “The view as you exercise is amazing,” Todd Hasty comments. The three story event center overlooks the water providing a view of the changing of the seasons as only Tennessee can truly offer. In Blue Water Bay, you will find a contemporary home with industrial cues in the interior that seem to blend into the blue steely water of the lake. There is not another area that offers such luxury, beauty, and uniqueness in small town America—in Tennessee. Truly---you must see Blue Water Bay and have YOUR breath taken away just as the Hasty’s did, upon their arrival. You too will be hooked—line and sinker.
